Danish homewares brand, JYSK recorded an end of year turnover of €70 million for Ireland and the UK, representing a 67% rise in sales year-on year.

The retailer now has 11 stores in the country, with its most recent opening in Carlow this month.

It said it expects to have 15 stores in Ireland by the end of this year.

According to the retailes, the opening of these new stores will see an investment of €7 m by the brand and the creation of up to 90 new jobs, contributing an estimated €43m to the local economies over the next 10 years.

JYSK said online sales represented 31% of sales in Ireland during the full year period.

"The past twelve months have been challenging for everyone in the retail sector, but we are pleased that JYSK has grown so well as a brand in the Ireland / UK market," said Roni Tuominen, Country Manager for JYSK UK and Ireland.

"I see this both as a result of customers spending more on home furnishing in general, and as a result of my colleagues across the market being quick to adapt to a new situation and focus more on online sales and Click & Collect," he said.

Globally, JYSK has set a record in the financial year 2020/21, announcing a company turnover of 32.6 billion DKK - an increase of 7% across its 3,085 stores worldwide.

Within the next year, JYSK said it plans to open 200 new stores across Europe.
