Taste and nutrition company Kerry Group said it has completed the deal to buy preservatives maker Hare Topco, which trades as Niacet.

The deal was first announced in June and has a value of €853m.

Kerry said that its food protection portfolio, resources and global scale combined with Niacet's capabilities, expertise and knowledge will strengthen its global food protection and preservation platform.

Niacet is a market leader in technologies for preservation and operates in the bakery and pharma sectors, while its low-sodium preservation systems are also used in the meat and plant based food sectors.

The business has customers in over 75 countries and its key manufacturing sites are in Niagara Falls in the US and Tiel in the Netherlands.

Edmond Scanlon, CEO of Kerry Group, said the company has a vision to create a world of sustainable nutrition which is about providing nutrition which has less impact on the earth's resources.

"Reducing food waste is a key component of this and one of the most effective ways to reduce food waste is through preservation where even one extra day of shelf life can have a hugely positive impact," the Kerry boss said.

"We are excited to welcome the Niacet team to Kerry where the combination of our two businesses have created a global leadership position in the preservation sector," he added.
