Heineken Ireland is to roll out its new stout nationally following its successful soft launch in 300 pubs two months ago.
The drink is to be become available in pubs and bars across the country by the end of the year and in off-licences and retailers by mid-September.
The stout took two years to develop in the company's Cork brewery.
Over 100 test brews were experimented with before the brewers discovered that adding tea to the process lowered the bitterness.
"When we discovered that adding a touch of tea at just the right moment softens the bitterness of stout, making it smoother tasting, we knew we had landed on an unexpectedly refreshing pint of stout," said PJ Tierney, Head Brewer for Island’s Edge.
"We also kept the heritage of the traditional stout pour, but we knew Island’s Edge needed a different type of glass."
"After trying three types, consumers told us they loved the feel of the tall conical glass so everything about Island’s Edge is just a little unexpectedly refreshing."
The company worked with bartenders, pub owners and stout drinkers to develop the new drink.
According to research commissioned by Heineken, three out of every four people are interested in trying a new stout.
