The Central Bank has appointed Colm Kincaid as its new Director of Consumer Protection.
The appointment will take effect from October of this year.
Colm Kincaid replaces Grainne McEvoy who will leave the Central Bank next January to take up an opportunity in the private sector.
Mr Kincaid was appointed Director of Securities and Markets Supervision in January 2018 and before this he was Head of Consumer Protection - Policy & Authorisations Division and Deputy Head of the Legal Division at the bank.
He joined the Central Bank in 2004, having previously practised as a solicitor in London and Dublin.
The Central Bank's Director General Derville Rowland said Colm Kincaid will bring considerable leadership and consumer and investor protection experience to this key role.
"Colm also brings a broad range of financial knowledge and experience to the position and is a committed public servant," she added.
The process to fill the role of Director of Securities and Markets Supervision will now start with the aim of filling the position without delay, the Central Bank added.
