One of Galway's most celebrated restaurants has just become the envy of pizzerias across Europe.

The Dough Bros, a foodie hotspot in Galway City, has been named the best pizza takeaway in Europe by 50 Top Pizza, which publishes guides to the best pizzerias across the world as curated by three food industry and produce experts: Barbara Guerra, Albert Know and Luciano Pignataro.

The Dough Bros was also named as the best pizzeria in Ireland, and the 27th best pizzeria overall, at the awards which took place in Milan, Italy.

Run by brothers Eugene and Ronan Greaney, and nestled into a bustling curio-packed restaurant on Galway's Middle St, The Dough Bros made its name on inventive and delicious pizzas that push the boundaries on what toppings traditionally go on a pizza.

Having started as a food truck, the spot is now a Galway institution, and a must-stop spot for any visitors. You'll find everything from a Bánh Mì pizza to a classic ham and mushroom one. During the course of the pandemic, the team pivoted to DIY kits, which were an enormous success.

Writing about the spot, 50 Top Pizza said: "During these past 18 months that have been so challenging for the worldwide restaurant sector, two brothers from Galway have transformed the roadblock of the health crisis into an opportunity.

"They never lost courage, but instead perfected their delivery service and even created a kit to make pizza at home. The pizza is baked in a wood-fired oven in their establishment near Galway. They have done a great job. Besides the doughs, their selection of raw materials is always at the highest of standards. Even the kits will produce one of the best pizzas in the country."

And it looks like the Dough Bros team celebrated in style, as they shared their joy at the prize on their Instagram. Sharing some photos of the team, they wrote: "The last 18 months have thrown some major curveballs but despite it all, it has been our most rewarding yet. Thank you to everyone that has helped us along the way. We have never been more excited or driven about the future and what lies ahead!"
