Lidl Ireland has welcomed the decision from Louth County Council to grant permission for a new Lidl store in Ardee, Co Louth - creating 15 new permanent jobs.

The current store will be knocked and replaced with the new store which will incorporate a range of sustainability features including an energy management system, electric vehicle charger spaces and a solar panel system.

Lidl is set to invest more than €8 million in the locality as part of the project, which will support 80 local construction jobs through the development phase.

It plans to open the new store in Spring 2022.

"We have had a long-standing desire to offer an upgraded shopping experience in the vibrant and thriving community of Ardee, and as such we are pleased with the decision to grant permission for a brand new store in the town," said Brian Smyth, Regional Property Executive for Lidl Ireland.

In January, Lidl announced its plans to recruit 23 new employees to its Louth-based operations this year, in addition to the 15 roles as part of the Ardee application.

It said these new jobs are planned to support a variety of operational roles across its existing five stores in the county, which forms part of an overall commitment of 1,200 new roles in Ireland this year.

Lidl Ireland currently employs 5,000 employees in its 170 stores, Head Office in Tallaght and three distribution centres and regional offices based in Charleville, Mullingar and Newbridge.
