The Government has announced €8.8 million in funding to enable the expansion of remote working hubs, under the Connected Hubs Scheme.

Grants ranging from €10,000 to €250,000 will be provided to existing hubs and broadband connection points to enhance and add capacity to remote working infrastructure.

117 projects have been approved for the funding, which will support the installation of privacy booths, access control and security systems, the conversion of existing open plan space to modular offices, and provision of enhanced audio visual, networking and conferencing facilities.

Announcing the successful projects, Minister for Rural and Community Development, Heather Humphreys said remote hubs act as "key economic assets" for towns and villages.

"The increased shift to remote working as a result of the pandemic has provided a golden opportunity for a greater regional distribution of jobs to support a better work life balance for many people," she said.

Minister Humphreys said the investment today will allow more people to live and work in rural communities.

€2.8m has been allocated to develop remote working infrastructure in the Eastern and Midland region, €3m for the North-West region and €3m for the Southern region.
