Food delivery service, Deliveroo, has introduced a "hybrid cloud canteen" service for businesses whose staff will in the future be working both in the office and from home.

Under the scheme, companies can provide subsidised or free meals to employees, but only pay for what they require on any given day based on the numbers in the office.

Deliveroo for Business, which has devised the service, claims it should help cut down on waste and reduce carbon emissions.

Professional catering partners such as With Taste, Hapi Food Co and Bujo Burger Kits will be taking part with delivery available to any postcode, not just those in the coverage area on the app.

"It has been sixteen months of huge change in so many aspects of life," said Paddy Quinlan, Senior Regional Manager, Deliveroo Ireland

"But one of the things that has remained constant is our love of food and the capacity that people have to break bread and find togetherness in that."

"Adapting to new ways of working brought about by the restrictions during the pandemic, has been really interesting for all of us at Deliveroo."

It is the latest in a number of new services introduced during the pandemic by Deliveroo that adapts to the new ways of working.

The company has already introduced a feature allowing employees of customers to expense a meal, with ordering rules, delivery addresses, hours of ordering and spending limits all adaptable on the app.

Deliveroo's gross transaction value grew 87% in the UK and Ireland year on year in the second quarter of this year compared to the same period last year.

While orders in the UK and Ireland grew 94% year on year to 38m.
