Fingal County Council has said it is looking for a new operator for its attractions at Malahide Castle, Newbridge House and the Casino Model Railway Museum, following the decision of Shannon Heritage to withdraw from their contract.

The council said it was disappointed to learn of Shannon Heritage's decision, and said it will continue to work with them as they move into a six-month transitionary period.

The properties in Malahide and Donabate, which include Malahide Castle, the Butterfly House, Newbridge House and Farm and the Casino Model Railway Museum will remain open to the public.

It is understood that Shannon Group, which manages the airport, the Shannon Property Company and the Shannon Heritage Company is concentrating now on restoring the airport business.

Yesterday, it said the Shannon heritage sites of the famous Bunratty Castle and Folk park, the historic Craggaunowen site, and Knappogue Castle, as well as King John's Castle in Limerick are to transfer over to the ownership and management of Clare and Limerick local councils.
