New figures from financial technology company Revolut show that after months of closed bars, restaurants and cinemas, people took full advantage of relaxed restrictions and good weather and spent big during the June Bank Holiday Monday.
Today's data shows a dramatic spike in spending when compared with the previous day, Sunday June 6, when bars and restaurants could serve takeaway drinks and food only.
Revolut said that total spend in bars and pubs soared by 246% on Monday compared to Sunday, with the maximum spend per minute hitting €3,571.01.
It noted that the average spend per person in pubs was €40.64 and the average spend per transaction amounted to €21.94.
Meanwhile total spending in restaurants was up 39% on Monday June 7 compared to Sunday June 6. The maximum spend per minute hit €2,545.07.
The average spend per person was €23.64 and the the average spend per transaction came to €19.50, Revolut calculated.
Total spending in cinemas also soared on Monday compared to Sunday, jumping by 195%.
Revolut said that the maximum spend per minute amounted to €162.20 with the average spend per person coming in at €12.68 and the average spend per transaction hitting €11.89.
