Aldi has said up to 50 jobs will be created during the construction of its new store on Main Street, Carrigaline in County Cork, with 30 permanent positions to be created upon reopening.

It said the new shop will be located on the site of the old Carrigaline Pottery business, which closed in 1979 after more than 50 years in operation.

The new Aldi store forms part of a larger plan for the town centre site, which includes a new public plaza, a café and almost 80 residential units.

Aldi said the 1,315 sq. metre store will be powered by 100% green electricity and will feature 52 photovoltaic solar panels located on the roof.

Colin Breslin, Regional Managing Director, Aldi Ireland said their public consultation is now open for members of the public to get in touch if they have anything they would like clarified under the plans.

"At Aldi, we always listen to our customers and the local communities our stores serve - so we are keen to hear the public’s views," he said.

The full plan is available to view on the Aldi website.
