Revolut users spent more money in Penneys stores than any other non-essential shops in the country on the first day of the reopening of retail yesterday.

The next highest spend was in JD Sports outlets, followed by Brown Thomas, Zara and Argos.

According to the financial technology company, Penneys stores accounted for 30 of the top 50 retailers in the country for Revolut spending yesterday.

Other retailers began click and collect services ahead of a full reopening of non-essential retail next week.

Personal services also resumed their services and at one point Revolut users were spending €768 per minute in hairdressers, barbers and salons yesterday.

The Grafton Barber was the most popular hairdressing retailer among Revolut users.

The average spend per person on hairdressing was €25.
