Payments of almost €410m have been made to over 21,000 businesses through the Government's Covid Restrictions Support Scheme (CRSS) to date.

The scheme came into effect last October, on budget day.

The Minister for Finance Paschal Donohoe said around €260m in payments were paid by the Revenue Commissioners in the first quarter of this year.

Minister Donohoe reassured businesses that the CRSS and the Employment Wage Subsidy Scheme have been extended until the end of June.

"This will ensure some degree of certainty for businesses as we lay the foundations for the full recovery of social life, public services and the economy in the months ahead," Minister Donohoe said.

He said consideration is being given to the fact that continued support could be necessary to the end of the year, to help maintain viable businesses and employment.

"Decisions on the form of such support will take account of emerging circumstances and economic conditions as they become clearer," he said.
