Aer Lingus has confirmed that it will launch its first transatlantic services direct from Manchester to the US and the Caribbean later this year.

Aer Lingus said it will start four new routes from Manchester Airport to New York JFK and Orlando from July 29.

It will also start flying from Manchester to Barbados in October; and to Boston from summer 2022.

Aer Lingus said the new services will complement its "Dub-Hub" strategy and it will continue to connect customers from UK and Europe via Dublin to the US.

"The flights from Manchester will be operated by Aer Lingus (UK) Limited, a UK incorporated entity which is a wholly owned subsidiary of Aer Lingus Limited," the airline stated.

From Manchester, Aer Lingus operates flights to Dublin and Belfast, and flights from Cork are set to resume in the summer.

The owner of Aer Lingus, IAG, said yesterday that it had secured a $1.76 billion credit facility from a group of banks that would be available to its coronavirus-hit airlines, which include British Airways and Iberia.

The company said that Aer Lingus, BA and Iberia would have a separate borrowing limit within the overall three-year facility.

"Amounts drawn would be secured against eligible unencumbered aircraft assets and take-off and landing rights at both London Heathrow and London Gatwick airports," it said.
