Aldi Ireland has announced that it plans to open a new store in Cootehill in Co Cavan.

25 new permanent jobs will be created when the proposed new store opens, while an additional 50 jobs will be created during its construction.

Aldi has submitted a planning application for the new 1,315 square metre store to Cavan County Council.

The new store will be powered by 100% green electricity and will have four electric vehicle charging points outside the store.

Donald Mackay, Aldi Regional Managing Director, said the company had been planning to open in Cootehill for some time and were delighted to have identified a site in the town centre.

"The environmentally friendly store is designed to meet the shopping needs of the local community and will be landscaped to complement the local area," he added.
