27 tourism companies from across Ireland are taking part in a virtual event hosted by Tourism Ireland.

'Ireland Meets the Middle East' is a two-day event designed to connect Irish tourism companies with more than 200 Middle Eastern travel agents and tour operators, based in the UAE, Qatar, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia and Turkey.

The aim is to promote Ireland to these travel agents and tour operators, to help attract international visitors when the country reopens and restrictions are lifted.

Tourism Ireland said the event will connect industry professionals via a series of one-to-one, pre-scheduled video appointments.

There will also be a virtual auditorium with panel discussions, webinars, entertainment and videos showcasing Ireland.

Aisling McDermott, Tourism Ireland's Manager Asia and Middle East, said they are sending a message to the Middle Eastern travel agents and tour operators is that Ireland will be ready to welcome back visitors when the time is right.

"We’ll be assuring them that tourism companies across the island of Ireland have been implementing all the required new health and safety measures – but will still be ready to deliver a fantastic holiday experience for their clients," she said.
