Irish-founded health screening and testing company LetsGetChecked is to open its new Dublin laboratory today as it scales up its European operations.

The lab, which is located in Calmount Business Park in Dublin, will initially be used to facilitate the provision of Covid-19 testing in Ireland and 19 markets across Europe.

As well as Covid-19 testing, the company provides tests for general health, specific health tests for men and women's health and sexual health tests.

Late last year, the company said it intended to create 160 new positions in Dublin in 2021.

It said 10 hires had already been made on the laboratory team.

LetsGetChecked's grew sales by over 800% in 2020 amid the global pandemic. The company shipped more than one million of their home coronavirus testing kits in the year.

It is also working alongside American Airlines, British Airways and Oneworld to launch a transatlantic coronavirus testing trial.

Earlier in 2020, the company raised $71m to help fuel expansion.

Founded in 2015, LetsGetChecked expects to grow its workforce to in excess of 650 employees in Ireland and the US this year.

Peter Foley, the chief executive and founder of LetsGetChecked, said the new lab's construction had been expedited due to the pandemic.

"Building this lab has been a crucial part of our scaling up of Covid-19 testing, as Ireland begins on the road back to normality. Testing will remain important to ensure safety in workplaces and for essential travel as the vaccine ramps up," he said.

"Beyond this pandemic, we've seen a huge rise in demand for quality telehealth services. Customers have seen that they can access effective medical care from the comfort of their home," he said.

"This lab will also help us expand this testing of other conditions such as diabetes, cholesterol, and colorectal cancer screenings," he added.
