Virgin Media has said December 2020 was the busiest month on record for broadband traffic.
During that month alone, Virgin Media said customers consumed 84% more information than they did in February 2020.
It said customers downloaded 83% more and uploaded 92% more than they did before the Covid-19 outbreak.
Due to increased numbers working from home, Virgin Media said traffic on the network peaked at 4pm every evening.
It said this would usually have been much later in the night, when customers would return home from work.
"Our homes are once again our schools, colleges, offices, cinemas and gyms so the importance of reliable broadband connectivity has never been greater," said Paul Higgins, Vice President of Commercial at Virgin Media.
