Sky is partnering with National Broadband Ireland to bring ultrafast broadband speeds of up to 1 Gb to homes across the country.
The first homes go live from today and Sky said it has begun selling and taking pre-registrations for Sky Broadband Ultrafast in towns that will soon be passed under the National Broadband Plan.
About 544,000 premises will be passed under the NBI programme with Cork, Cavan, Galway and Limerick set to be the first counties to benefit from the rollout.
Sky said that people can register their interest now and it will notify them as soon as ultrafast broadband is available in their area.
JD Buckley, CEO Sky Ireland, said that connectivity has always been important but to the residents in these under-served communities, the arrival of ultrafast broadband will be "life changing" from both a professional and personal perspective.
"It is especially important we all are connected in these extraordinary times. Sky is currently offering Ultrafast Broadband with speeds up to 1Gb to almost 1 million homes," Mr Buckley said.
"We look forward to rolling this out in NBI towns and connecting rural Ireland over the next few years," he added.
