Insurance group FBD Holdings has said that Tomás O'Midheach will take up his new role as CEO in January.
Mr O'Midheach will join the group on January 4 as chief executive and executive director of both the group and of FBD Insurance plc.
His appointment was announced in July.
Paul D'Alton, the company's current interim chief executive, will resign from the position and will also step down as executive director of both the group and FBD Insurance on the same date.
Tomás O'Midheach resigned as executive director of AIB last month.
FBD Chairman Liam Herlihy said that Mr O'Midheach has considerable knowledge of the Irish financial services landscape and he brings a wealth of experience to FBD.
"I look forward to working with him to grow our business and deliver for our customers and stakeholders," he said.
"I'd like to take this opportunity to sincerely thank Paul for his steady leadership through the challenging times brought about by Covid 19, we wish him well in his next endeavours," he added.
