Aldi Ireland is creating 30 jobs in Ballyhaunis in Co Mayo as it plans to build a new store there.

50 jobs will also be created during construction of the proposed new store.

Aldi has reached an agreement to buy the centrally located nine-acre green field site on Main Street in the town centre to build the new 1,315m² store.

The new environmentally-friendly store will be powered by 100% green electricity and will feature solar panels on the roof.

Aldi already has four stores in Co Mayo, with the most recent store opening in Belmullet in August of this year.

It also has plans to open a store in Ballina and the company's existing stores are located in Castlebar, Claremorris and Ballinrobe.

Aldi employs over 4,500 people and operates a network of 145 stores across the country, with stores in each county in the Republic of Ireland.
