Aldi Ireland has agreed a new €1.5m deal with Co Limerick-based Twomeys Bakery to supply all its 145 Irish stores.
The new 12-month contract will see Twomeys Bakery supply the supermarket chain with apple tart, fruit scones, apple sponge and apple crumble under Aldi's own-brand Grainne's Bakery range.
Based in Dromcollogher in Co Limerick, Twomeys Bakery is a family-run business and began working with Aldi in late 2019.
Twomeys Bakery employs 44 staff, including seven craft bakers. It said that 12 new jobs have been created as a direct result of the new Aldi contract and the bakery intends to increase its size and capacity next year.
The bakery, which was founded in 1901, produces 50 different breads and cakes using traditional family recipes that have been passed down through the generations.
Eileen Twomey, Director of Twomeys Bakery, said the company's partnership with Aldi has been a huge boost to its business.
"It has allowed us to employ more people locally at a time when people and businesses across the country are facing serious challenges," she added.
