Aldi is rolling out new canopies across 21 of its stores around Ireland from December to shelter customers from adverse weather conditions during the winter months.

It said it hopes the new measure will ensure customers will remain protected and dry while maintaining a safe social distance should the need arise in the run up to Christmas.

Niall O'Connor, Aldi Group Managing Director said that providing customers with the best shopping experience possible while ensuring their safety and that of their staff is their number one priority.

"We have introduced several safety measures across our stores to keep everyone safe and I would like to thank our customers for their ongoing support and patience in adhering to them," he said.

Aldi Ireland has implemented a series of safety measures across its Irish stores, including a traffic light system which continuously counts the number of customers entering and exiting the store, showing a green light for capacity and a red light when capacity has been reached.
