Ardmore Studios expects future demand for content for TV to be strong as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic.

That is according to new accounts for the company behind the Co Wicklow studios where profits last year increased more than 12 fold to €783,580.

On the impact of Covid-19, a note attached to the accounts states the crisis resulted in a temporary suspension of productions until the second half of 2020.

The note says that following a strong start to the year, there is an expectation that 2020 revenues will be down on 2019.

The note adds that as a result of the Covid-19 crisis, even more television and streaming is being consumed and the future demand for content is expected to be strong.

In 2019, the staging of RTÉ's hit show 'Dancing with the Stars’ at Ardmore Studios contributed to the profits last year.

Pay to directors reduced from €236,633 to €217,224.

The profit last year takes account of non-cash depreciation costs of €267,509.

The Bray-based studio company employed 11 and at the end of December last and had accumulated profits of €2.59m. The company’s shareholder funds totaled €3.93 million.

The firm's cash pile last year increased from €1.1 million to €1.95m.

Ardmore first opened in 1958 and has also been involved in a number of major productions, including Mel Gibson’s 1994 epic tale, Braveheart, the Tudors and Penny Dreadful.
