Peter Kearney, the chief executive of the Irish Aviation Authority, has become the new Chairperson of the COOPANS Alliance Board.

COOPANS is an international partnership between the air navigation service providers of Ireland, Austria, Croatia, Denmark, Portugal  and Sweden.

Mr Kearney takes over from Sweden's Ann Persson who has held the position since 2018.

COOPANS members share their local and European experiences and work together to agree and develop common air traffic control equipment specifications.

In 2011, the IAA was the first aviation authority in Europe to introduce new systems under the COOPANS agreement for the purchase and installation of new Air Traffic Management technology.

"With the many challenges aviation faces over the coming years, the COOPANS Alliance has a key role to play in helping the aviation sector tackle the Covid-19 issues and setting new standards for harmonisation and efficiency in air traffic management," Peter Kearney said today
