A five star Dublin hotel is to begin renting its bedrooms by the day to people who want to come into the city to work, in order to escape their home office.

For €110 per day, guests will be able to hire a bedroom at the Marker Hotel in Dublin's docklands from 8.30am to 5.30pm, Monday to Friday.

Visitors will get access to a private workspace with wifi and large desk, as well as the hotel's gym, pool and other leisure facilities.

Refreshments such as tea, coffee, mineral water and snacks will also be included.

In order to ensure high levels of hygiene, personal protective equipment packs will be provided with sanitiser, face masks and wipes.

The move comes as many hotels around the country, and particularly in cities, try to find ways to cope with lower than normal occupancy levels due to Covid-19 restrictions.

According to the Irish Hotels Federation, national average occupancy levels for September and October currently stand at 24%.

In Dublin it says occupancy for the two months currently sit at 12%, with other cities at 24% and the rest of the country at 30%.

Hoteliers say further stimulus measures are required to save the tourism and hospitality sector.
