A major manufacturing firm in Ballinasloe has confirmed it is closing its facility with the loss of 115 jobs.

Aptar announced earlier this year that it was to begin a review of operations in the east Galway area.

This afternoon the company confirmed it is to cease production by December, with industrial equipment being transferred to other Aptar global outlets.

Aptar has been in Ballinasloe for over 20 years and is based at the IDA business park in the town.

The factory produces pumps and dispenser systems for perfume sprays and beauty products.

It has also been manufacturing  hand sanitisers during the Covid pandemic.

The factory operates 24/7 shifts but had scaled back significantly in recent months.
