The number of new cars registered in July dropped by 18.2% compared to the same month last year, according to the Central Statistics Office.
The figures show that 15,329 cars were registered last month, compared to 18,741 in July 2019.
The number of new private cars licensed in first seven months of 2020 fell by more than 31,000 vehicles compared with the same period in 2019, to 64,513.
Despite the drop of more than 33.1% in the overall number of new cars licensed from January to July 2020, the number of new electric and hybrid cars combined was 12,243 compared with 11,868 in the same period of 2019.
The number of new hybrid cars licensed grew by 5% from 9,413 to 9,883, while there were 2,360 new electric cars licensed in the first seven months, a fall of 95 vehicles when compared with the same period in 2019.
