The representative body for the insurance industry has confirmed that insurers will provide cover for travel to the 15 countries on the government's Green List.

In a statement, Insurance Ireland said the main providers of travel insurance in Ireland would provide insurance, 'subject to normal terms and conditions'.

It follows confirmation from the Department of Foreign Affairs that it had updated the travel advisory for those countries from 'essential travel only' to 'normal precautions'.

Insurance Ireland advised consumers to check directly with their insurer, adding that they should be aware that the Green List would be reviewed on a fortnightly basis and is subject to change.

However, the department still advises that people should 'avoid non-essential travel abroad.'

Individuals arriving into Ireland from the green list countries will not be required to quarantine for 14 days on arrival.

The 15 countries on the Green List are San Marino, Gibraltar, Monaco, Latvia, Slovakia, Greenland, Greece, Lithuania, Cyprus, Slovakia, Estonia, Hungary, Malta, Finland, Norway and Italy.
