Drinks group C&C has temporarily laid off about 70% of its employees due to the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic, but said its main production sites in Clonmel and Glasgow remain operational.

C&C has also implemented an average 20% salary cut across its workforce.

Its executive leadership team and board remuneration has been reduced by 30% and 40% respectively for an initial three months.

In a trading update, C&C said that due to its "absolute focus" on cash conservation and its decision to avail of government support through this crisis, it believes it is neither appropriate, nor prudent, to declare a final dividend for the full year.

C&C said that its customers remain a priority during these difficult times and it is engaging where possible to support them.

To this end, it has set up a dedicated helpline to offer advice and guidance on the government support measures that have been introduced and how to access these initiatives.

It has also recently launched LOCAL, an app where people can buy food and drink from suppliers in their local communities.

"We have created LOCAL to help support pubs, restaurants, bars and independent drinks merchants who suddenly need to offer delivery or collection services but who do not have the technology," the company explained.

C&C makes, markets and distributes branded beer, cider, wine, spirits and soft drinks across the UK and Ireland.

Its brands include Bulmers cider, Tennents beer, Five Lamps craft beer, Tipperary Water; and Finches soft drinks.
