Green energy provider Energia is to reduce gas prices by 12% and electricity prices by 3% for its customers.

The cheaper prices come into effect from June 1.

Energia said its dual fuel customers will save an average of €122 a year, with gas customers saving €94 a year and electricity customers saving €28 a year.

"The price reductions of 12% and 3% for gas and electricity will make a significant difference to homes across Ireland, enabling people to save up to €122 annually," commented Geoff Codd, Head of Marketing at Energia.

Energia supplies 25% of the island of Ireland's total electricity requirements and 21% of the island's total wind power, meeting the energy needs of over 200,000 homes.
