Businesses that cannot calculate their tax return due to staffing issues should still file on a 'best estimates' basis, the Revenue Commissioners has said.
Last month Revenue outlined a number of measures it was taking to assist SMEs dealing with the impact of Covid-19, including the suspension of debt enforcement and the suspension of interest charges on late payments.
That includes VAT payments for March and April, and employers' PAYE liabilities for April.
However Revenue has repeatedly urged firms to continue to file their tax returns on time, even if payment was not immediately possible.
Today it updated its guidance, and asked firms who could not complete a return normally to file on a 'best estimates' basis.
Any subsequent changes can be done without penalty, it said.
It reminded firms that their current tax clearance status remains in place for the coming months.
It also said it was doing what it could to ease cashflow issues - including the prioritisation of repayments and refunds.
