The Director of Retail Ireland has said some businesses may not survive the impact of coronavirus.
The group which represents retailers, including some of the larger operators, says the forced closure of many retailers may be too much for some companies to recover from.
Director Arnold Dillon told RTÉ News this evening that the impact of the virus has been a "hammer blow" to the retail sector.
He said that whilst the grocery sector is "thriving", other parts of the retail sector are under what he called "intense" pressure.
Mr Dillon said it will be, "a real challenge to get a lot of retailers back up and running" when the crisis passes and retailers are allowed open their doors again.
