Packaging group Ardagh has reported a rise in earnings for 2019, as it benefited from strong demand in America and Europe.

During the year the glass and metal packaging firm had earnings before interest, tax, depreciation and amortisation of $1.173 billion. That is a rise of 5%, or 8% on a constant currency basis.

It came as revenues at the group dipped slightly to $6.66 billion - though that is 2% higher on a constant currency basis.

Ardagh reported particularly strong growth in its glass packaging earnings, while shipments of beverage cans were also higher.

In October 2019 it divested of its food and speciality packaging business, with the proceeds going towards its debt.

Ardagh has its origins in the Irish Glass Bottle Company, but no longer has any manufacturing facilities here.

It is headquartered in Luxembourg and listed on the New York Stock Exchange.
