Irish fruit grower, importer and distributor Keelings has bought a pineapple farm located in Costa Rica.
Producing over 24 million pineapples a year, the Las Brisas farm has 900 hectares of land, 460 employees and a modern pack-house.
The Las Brisas farm is the first certified pineapple farm in the world to produce and export pesticide-free pineapples.
It was recently awared the title of "Number One Pineapple Farm" in Costa Rica for its sustainable environmental practices, food safety and staff welfare.
The pineapples from Las Brisas will be sold into all major European markets and the US.
Costa Rica is also the home of Pura Vida melon farm in Nicoya, where Keelings have a 50:50 joint venture.
Caroline Keeling, the CEO of Keelings Fruits said, said today's deal further demonstrates the company's commitment to both growing and sourcing quality fruit in the best way possible.
Ms Keeling said the Las Brisas ethos and sustainability commitments in production and in local community activities are values both companies share.
