After leaving school in Hackney aged 16, he began selling electronic goods out of a van he bought for just £50.
He later founded Amstrad in 1968 and 50 years later holds an estimated worth of £1.2 billion.
Mr Sugar was a former chair of Tottenham Hotspur and he has presented The Apprentice for 15 series.
