Primark continues international expansion with new Slovakia store

Primark, which trades as Penneys here, has confirmed it will enter its 15th market, Slovakia, after it signed a lease to open a store in Bratislava. 

The new shop in Slovakia will mark Primark's entry into a fourth Central Eastern Europe market. 

Primark opened its first shop in the region in Ljubljana, Slovenia, in June of this year. 

The company has also announced plans to open in Poland and the Czech Republic in 2020.

The new store in Bratislava will form part of an extension to the established EUROVEA shopping Centre and is due to open in 2022.

First established in Dublin in 1969, Primark now has 376 stores across 12 markets, including the US.

Paul Marchant, CEO of Primark, said that in the year of the company's 50th anniversary, it is incredibility proud to see growth continue across Europe and the US. 

As well as the planned new shops in Poland and the Czech Republic, he said Primark will expand its footprint in the US with stores opening in New Jersey and Florida in 2020, and further leases signed in Chicago and Philadelphia.
