Golden Discs is opening a new shop in Dublin's Jervis Shopping Centre this weekend.

The latest opening follows the launch of new shops in Drogheda, Sligo and Tralee recently and brings the total number of Golden Discs stores around the country to 21.

57 years after the company was first launched, Golden Discs now employ over 150 people nationwide and it said the new Jervis store will employ ten staff.

That number will double during in the Christmas period.

The company said that the renaissance in vinyl records is driving its current expansion.

Golden Discs' chief executive Stephen Fitzgerald said the company only had one city-centre store in Stephen's Green Shopping Centre, and it had been inundated with requests to return to the Henry Street shopping district.

"Our team has spent a lot of time looking for the right space and we believe this spacious flagship store will be a superb return to the Jervis Shopping Centre," the CEO added.

The company also said it has expanded its online offering into international markets, starting with the US.
