A Galway based medical laboratory company is to create 100 new jobs as part of a significant expansion.

The new positions will bring to almost 300 the number of people employed at Complete Laboratory Solutions (CLS).

The company was formed in 1994 in Ros Muc, Co Galway and it opened a second facility in Galway City in 2008.

It lists several major pharmaceutical and medical technology companies among its 600-strong client base.

The new roles will be filled over a two year period.

"We're the largest privately-owned contract lab in the country. We provide sampling and testing to the food environmental, medical device and pharmaceutical industries," Evelyn O'Toole, CEO of CLS explained.

"The core disciplines we're looking to recruit in are microbiology and analytical graduates," she added.

Enterprise Ireland, which is supporting the expansion, says it provides further evidence of the country's role in the development of cutting edge medical devices.

CLS is hoping to expand its overseas customer base, with a particular focus on UK firms who will need to have products and materials certified for the EU market, in a post-Brexit environment.

"We see an upside to Brexit. UK based companies won't be able to release products into the EU without coming through a non-UK testing house like ourselves. We've seen a significant uplift in inquiries in the last two years," Evelyn O'Toole said.
