New figures from the Central Statistics Office show that the number of planning permissions approved in the second quarter of the year had jumped by almost 42% on the same time last year.
The CSO said that planning permissions were granted for a total of 9,611 homes in the second quarter of 2019, compared to 6,777 in the second quarter of 2018.
The CSO said that 4,675 of the 2019 approvals were for apartments and 4,936 were for houses.
It noted that the level of planning permissions granted for apartments in the three month period had jumped by 156% while permissions for houses actually fell by 0.3%.
Today's figures also reveal that one-off houses accounted for 14.4% of all new homes securing planning permission in the three months to April to June.
