Kevin Thompson has been appointed chief executive of insurance company RSA Ireland, replacing Ken Norgrove.

The appointment follows Mr Thompson's approval by the Central Bank for the role.

Mr Thompson has been CEO of Insurance Ireland for the past seven years, where he had overall responsibility for the organisation and its strategic and commercial objectives.

Before that he was CEO at AIG Life Ireland and VP for Multinational Group Risk Europe.

Mr Norgrove is moving to the role of CEO of Codan/Trygg-Hansa, RSA Group's Scandinavian business.

Mr Thompson said he was delighted with his move to RSA Ireland, which he noted had been writing insurance here since as far back as 1721.

"I take up the position of CEO with the business on a very solid footing, not least thanks to the excellent stewardship of Ken Norgrove," he added.
