Coca-Cola has announced that its 500ml bottles are being made from 50% recycled plastic.
The recycled bottles will be used across all its brands, including Diet Coke, Fanta and Sprite.
The company's "take-home" packs, which are bottles bigger than 500ml, will be made from 25% recycled plastic.
Coca-Cola said the move will result in the elimination of around 2,000 tonnes of plastic in Ireland each year.
All Coca-Cola plastic bottles and cans are already 100% recyclable.
Earlier this week, Supervalu said it is launching a reusable, compostable shopping bag, which will sell for 89c.
Last year, the supermarket chain replaced plastic fruit and vegetable bags with compostable options.
