Quarterly construction output slows by 0.3% - CSO

New figures show that the volume of output in building and construction decreased by 0.3% in the first quarter of 2019 compared to the final quarter of 2018.

The Central Statistics Office said the volume of output in civil engineering work, residential building work and non-residential building work decreased by 9.9%, 1.8% and 0.1% respectively.

However, on an annual basis the volume of output in building and construction increased by 5.9% in the first quarter of 2019 when compared with the first quarter of 2018. 

Output volumes increased by 7.6% in non-residential building work, while civil engineering work volumes rose by 1.6%.  

But output volumes decreased by 0.1% in residential building work in the first quarter of the year compared to the same time in 2018. 

Today's CSO figures also show that the value of output in building and construction increased by 1% on a quarterly basis, while it rose by 10.6% in an annual basis.
