Skillnet Ireland, the national agency responsible for the promotion and facilitation of workforce learning, wants businesses and industry bodies to make training, upskilling and development a priority.
A recent survey found that 84% of Irish organisations are struggling with skills shortages in their sector, with IT, customer services and financial services worst affected.
Skillnet Ireland has outlined five reasons how training, development and upskilling will lead to a company's growth and success.
These include a changing workplace, changing employee expectations, motivation, improved revenues and retaining talent.
Paul Healy, Chief Executive of Skillnet Ireland, said that regular upskilling of staff is critical to having better-run, more-effective companies that can respond to the diverse demands of an ever-changing business environment.
"Talent is the lifeline of any organisation and that’s why we would encourage companies to get in touch with a Skillnet Network and see how we can help future-proof your business," he said.
Skillnet Ireland currently supports over 15,000 companies nationwide by providing a wide range of valuable training and learning experiences to over 50,000 people.
