Dublin-based aircraft leasing company Avolon has reported a 10% increase in leasing revenues for 2018, while its profits soared by 30%.

Avolon, the third biggest aircraft leasing companies in the world, said its leased revenue for the 12 months to the end of December rose by 10% to $2.569 billion.

Its profits for the year rose by 30% to $717m from $550m in 2017.

The company said its owned, managed and committed fleet grew by 7% to stand at 971 aircraft at the end of 2018.

It said its fleet has an average age of five years, with an average remaining lease term of 6.8 years.

During the year the company delivered a total of 33 new aircraft, including the world's first A330neo.

It also executed a total of 153 lease transactions and contracted sale deals for 130 planes.

Avolon sold 87 planes last year, while it had another 58 aircraft held for sale at the end of the year.

2018 also saw ORIX Aviation Systems take a 30% stake in the company, while it incorporated a revised governance structure which it said will enhance protection for debt investors.

Avolon's chief executive Dómhnall Slattery said that 2018 was another "excellent year" for the company.

Mr Slattery said the company had made significant progress towards securing its Investment Grade rating, which is a key corporate objective for 2019.
