The New Year's Festival in Dublin is set to showcase tourism in the capital, and encourage more people to visit the capital and Ireland in 2019, according to tourism groups.

Over 900 International media from 20 overseas markets are in Ireland this New Year's Eve.

They were invited to experience the celebrations by Fáilte Ireland, in conjunction with Tourism Ireland.

The tourism bodies co-ordinated over 400 different itineraries resulting in the media representatives meeting with over 4,000 Irish businesses across the country.

Liam Campbell from Fáilte Ireland's International Publicity team said this year's New Year's Festival promises to be the most impressive end of year celebration Dublin has ever seen. "Dublin is extending an invitation to the world to come and mark the arrival of the New Year in one of the friendliest cities in the world," he said.

"The festivities also give us an opportunity to raise the profile of Ireland and Dublin as a destination and, along with the thousands of overseas visitors who will arrive, we have invited key media to ring out the old, ring in the new and really experience what a vibrant and exciting place Dublin is."
