Toyota is recalling 1.3 million of its vehicles built between June 2015 and May of this year for safety checks.
219,000 of the vehicles were sold in Europe. A spokesman for Toyota Ireland said the recall will affect about 3,900 vehicles here.
The models concerned are the Prius, Prius PHV and C-HR hybrid cars.
The recall is to check a wiring harness connected to the hybrid vehicle power control unit.
There have been no reports of any accidents or injuries relating to this issue.
The spokesman said the recall is a precautionary measure and involves the fitting of a protective cover on a section of the wire harness. There will be no cost to customers.
