House of Fraser has stopped accepting gift cards and vouchers at its Dundrum store after the UK retailer was placed into administration last week.

Financial services firm EY - which is acting as the administrator for House of Fraser - said the move follows a decision by the Sports Direct group to suspend accepting them at the stores it acquired last week.

Sports Direct struck a deal on Friday to rescue House of Fraser's UK operations out of administration for £90m.

Mike Ashley's Sports Direct acquired the Dublin-based store but must deal with regulatory issues before a takeover can be complete, according to EY.

In a statement to RTÉ News, EY said: "To have had a different approach would have caused confusion and we are evaluating the position with the Sports Direct group.

"Customers already in possession of gift cards and vouchers should retain them as they will either be the evidence they require to submit their claims to the administrators, or be available for redemption should there be a decision to lift the suspension."

EY added it is discussing the issue with Sports Direct and will "evaluate the situation on an ongoing basis for the Dundrum store".

The administrator also said House of Fraser Dundrum will continue to trade as normal during the administration process.

House of Fraser's outlet in Dundrum - its only outlet in the Republic of Ireland - employs more than 200 people as well as concession staff.
