Online booking platform Hostelworld has said its chief executive Feargal Mooney will step down after the company's AGM in June.

The company said that Mr Mooney, who has been CEO at the company for the last 10 years, will be replaced by Gary Morrison.

Mr Morrison joins the company from Expedia where he has served in a number of roles, most recently as Head of its Retail Operations.

Before working at Expedia, he worked with Google and Motorola.

Feargal Mooney joined Hostelworld Group 16 years ago, shortly after it was established, and worked as chief operations and finance officer at the company before he was appointed CEO in 2008.

During that time he oversaw the company's development and steered the company to a successful IPO in 2015. He also led the globalisation of the business including the development of offices in Shanghai, Seoul and Sydney.

"Leading Hostelworld from start-up to PLC has been a real honour and I've loved every step along the way. It has been, and continues to be, a really fun and interesting business, and I've had the privilege of working with some enormously talented and supportive people over the years I've been here," Mr Mooney said in a statement today.

"After 16 years developing the business, ten as chief executive, I believe that a change will be good for me personally and for Hostelworld," he added.
