Coca-Cola is to close its concentrate manufacturing plant in Athy, Co Kildare with the loss of 82 jobs.

The company said it is taking the step following a review of concentrate manufacturing, with production being transferred to the soft drink maker's high-capacity facility in Ballina, Co Mayo.

43 of the jobs are expected to transfer to Ballina, with some employees from Athy having the option to move.

The closure will take place on a phased basis, starting in September of this year and ending in December 2019.

Coca-Cola said it will commence a period of consultation with employee representatives at Athy International Concentrates.
